'Dolly' in Red Canyon

$ 200.00

I’m 'Dolly', the Mistletoe Fig, and native to Southeast Asia. My shiny light green leaves have a spatulate shape and yellowish undersides that have triangular black glands in between the leaf veins. My nickname 'Mistletoe Fig' comes from my small orange and red fruits which resemble mistletoe berries. I am used in traditional medicine in Southeast Asia where all parts of me are believed to have healing properties. My rounded leaves are considered as a symbol of good luck and as an auspicious plant in Feng Shui. I represent journeys and the power of introspection.

Keep me in a location that has partial or direct sunlight several hours a day. To water, submerge my pot in water up to the rim for 20 minutes. Do this about once every 5-7 days, or more frequently when it is very hot or dry. I like temperatures between 45-80 ̊F. Keep me away from heaters in the winter and on nice days open the window for fresh air; I love a good breeze.

Symbolism: I'm highly regarded in Southeast Asia where you'll find me near temples and sacred places because of my strong spiritual significance. I'm also considered sacred by Buddhists. After attaining enlightenment, Buddha was believed to have sat under a Banyan ficus tree for seven days, absorbed in his new-found realization.

The ficus is a symbol of longevity and immortality because I don't allow anything to distract my growth. I will continue life around anything in my path as I have the ability to survive and grow for centuries in the natural world.

Includes care instructions. Plate sold separately.
