I’m Benny, the Weeping Fig Tree, and native to Southeast Asia and Australia. In the wild, I can grow up to 60 ft tall and can uplift sidewalks and streets if left to my own devices. In a home I make a great indoor bonsai and will stay small. I've been trained to have a loop in my trunk to show off these curves.
I love bright conditions but can tolerate partial shade. To water, submerge my pot up to the rim for 20 minutes. Do this about once every 5-7 days, and more often if very hot or dry. You can safely prune back my leaves to keep me in shape twice a year.
Keep me away from the direct line of heaters and air conditioners, or any sudden changes in temperature.
Symbolism: It is legendary in East Asia because it is said that Buddha gained enlightenment under the ficus tree. They are also seen as the link between the human and spirit worlds. In Feng Shui, the Weeping Fig carries the Wood element, signifying vitality and growth. Its Chi, 'Zhen,' represents thunder, symbolizing the surging energy of new endeavors.
