'Tanner' the Canadian Hemlock
Cute and plump, a pillow shaped hemlock with tight needles and compact branching might leave you petting it with adoration.
I'm Tanner, a native East Coaster and the smallest hemlock around. I like sun to partial shade, but shy away from a scorching afternoon sun, as my feathery needles don't like to tan. Also, don't let my roots dry out! I pack tannins in my bark that used to help Native Americans tan leather. Fear not, I’m not related to that nasty hemlock that felled Socrates. I like to be outside when possible, especially after November.
