I’m Cosmo the Dwarf Umbrella Tree and native to Southeast Asia. My leaves are a glossy green and fan out like tiny umbrellas. I make a great apartment friend because I'm tolerant of many conditions. I’ll do fine in shadier spots but prefer medium to bright indirect sunlight as well.
The best way to water me is to submerge my pot in water, almost to the top rim, for about 10 minutes. I'll soak water up through my drainage hole. Water by submerging 3/4 of my pot in a pool of water for 10 minutes. It's best to keep me on the dry side as my biggest killer is by overwatering. I can go 10 days and often longer between waterings. Pick me up and water when I feel light.
Try to keep my leaves dry and make sure there is good air circulation. In winter make sure I'm not placed near a heater which will dry me out quickly. Also you should keep me way from pets, especially if they are curious enough to eat me, as I might give them a very bad day.
Symbolism: In China, the Umbrella Tree is one of the most commonly used plants in Feng Shui. Its leaves capture positive energy and the plant is said to attract wealth for the residents. The plant's 'umbrella' leaves also provide a protective effect.
