'Cosmo' the Dwarf Umbrella Tree - #708

This Limited Edition of Cosmo the Dwarf Umbrella Tree in our new Katutubo Terracotta Planter is a rugged beauty inspired by indigenous Filipino patterns from Kalinga and Subanen textiles, pottery, and tattoos. Its beauty lies in its ethnic geometric patterns and carbonization technique, resulting in an uneven black-gray and deep brown coloring. For this one time collaboration, we worked with Northern Philippines-based Red Slab Pottery.

I’m Cosmo the Dwarf Umbrella Tree, native to Southeast Asia. My trunk stands upright with many tiny umbrella leaves branching out. My leaves are glossy green and fan out like tiny umbrellas. I’ll thrive in shady spots but can tolerate medium to bright indirect sunlight as well. 

The best way to water me is to submerge my pot in water up to the rim for 5 minutes. Overwatering is my biggest killer. I like to dry out between waterings, and a good way to test is to pick me up and feel the weight of my pot. If in a shady spot, I can easily go 2 weeks before needing water again. Try to keep my leaves dry and make sure there is good air circulation at all times.

Keep me away from pets! I could give them a very bad day if they decide to eat me.

Symbolism: The Umbrella Tree is one of the most auspicious plants in Feng Shui. Its Wood element highlights growth and vitality while enhancing the flow of 'Zhen' Chi, fostering positive transformations. A healthy Umbrella Tree is also believed to attract wealth and prosperity through its vibrant energy and robust foliage.
