'Hal' the Chinese Banyan

$ 365.00

I’m Hal the Chinese Banyan Tree, a Ficus Microcarpa and native to Southeast Asia. I'm considered the beginner's bonsai for my relatively easy care and can tolerate a wide range of indoor conditions. I am also known as the Indian Laurel and Curtain Fig.

I have a main trunk that divides into many branches that support a dense canopy. With enough humidity, I’ll sport aerial roots that hang from my branches. I’m comfortable grown as a houseplant, but also like nice days spent outdoors. Keep me in temperatures between 55-80 ̊F and away from heaters in the winter.

I can tolerate many light conditions, from shady to bright natural light. Just monitor the weight of my pot and water when it feels about 1/2 lighter. It is usually every 5-7 days. To water, submerge my pot up to the rim for 20 minutes and drain well.

Symbolism: After attaining enlightenment, Buddha was believed to have sat under a Banyan tree for seven days, absorbed in his new-found realization. Generally, the Banyan encourages stability and steadfastness in Feng Shui. The Banyan's Wood element feeds Fire in the productive cycle, symbolizing expansion and the chance for continuous growth and enhanced wealth or success. Its 'Zhen' Chi gives this tree the ability to amplify protective energy, especially in one's career and financial journey. Fun Fact: this tree is also believed to support liver and kidney functions.

Includes care instructions. Plate sold separately.
