This one-of-a-kind tree stands apart from the rest. What you see in the photos are what you get, and there will never be another one like it!
This Limited Edition of Olivia the European Olive Tree in our new Katutubo Terracotta Planter is a rugged beauty inspired by indigenous Filipino patterns from Kalinga and Subanen textiles, pottery, and tattoos. Its beauty lies in its ethnic geometric patterns and carbonization technique, resulting in an uneven black-gray and deep brown coloring. For this one time collaboration, we worked with Northern Philippines-based Red Slab Pottery.
I’m Olivia, the European Olive Tree. Since ancient times I’ve been a symbol of peace. My oblong leaves have a silvery sheen that help protect me from the harsh direct sun, and my trunk naturally twists when older. Just like my sunny habitat, I like full sun and tolerate warm locations. Keep me in temperatures above 50˚F all year, and away from heaters and air conditioners.
To water, submerge my pot up to the rim for 5-10 minutes. Do this about once every 5 days, drain thoroughly, and let me dry out a little between waterings. When it’s very hot or dry, check my pot, as you may need to water me more frequently. My Terracotta pot is porous and known to wick away moisture fairly quickly.
Symbolism: The practice of 'offering an olive branch' as a symbol of peace has been around since ancient roman times. Ancient Olympians were crowned with Olive wreaths. In Feng Shui, the olive's Wood element and Zhen (thunder) chi represent abundance, peace, and prosperity. More importantly, its association with the thunder trigram (八卦) is thought to enhance the energies that propel us forward in life.
Includes basic care instructions. We always recommend doing more research as each environment-- and tree!-- is unique. Plate sold separately.
