I’m Birdie the Caribbean Banyan, and native to Southeast Asia and the Caribbean. I have a thick trunk with curly pointy leaves that droop down like a weeping willow tree. I represent the wild side of Banyan strength and energy, and can take shadier conditions than most other Banyan trees. I'm considered the beginner's bonsai for my relatively easy care and can tolerate a wide range of indoor conditions.
I have a thick main trunk that divides into many branches that support a dense canopy. With enough humidity, I’ll sport aerial roots that hang from my branches. I’m comfortable grown as a houseplant, but also like nice days spent outdoors.
Keep me in temperatures between 55-80 ̊F. I like bright indirect light, and get watered about once a week, or when my pot feels about 1/2 lighter. To water, submerge my pot in water up to the base of my trunk for 10 minutes and set me on a plate.
Symbolism: Ficus is a symbol of longevity and immortality, as my growth is undeterred by any obstacle. I have the remarkable ability to thrive and flourish for centuries in the natural world, adapting and growing around anything in my path.
Includes care instructions. Plate sold separately.
