I’m Numnum the Dwarf Natal Plum, a semi-tropical evergreen native to South Africa. I do well with salty winds, as I am a coastal dweller. My newer leaves have a pink tint to them and I can produce white flowers and edible fruit. Keep me in a location that has full sun or bright indirect light for 4-8 hours a day.
To water, submerge my pot up to the rim for about 5-10 minutes and let me drain thoroughly. Do this about once every 5-7 days, or when my pot feels 1/2 lighter. Monitor me closely as you may need to water more often in the height of summer and winter. I like warm temperatures and live indoors. But once temps hit above 60F, you can take me outside for fresh air and sunlight!
Symbolism: The natal plum is deeply intertwined with the Earth element, signifying stability and grounding. Its Chi, 'Kun,' is synonymous with motherhood and nurture. An auspicious plant in Feng Shui, the plum is thought to symbolize sweetness amidst the bitterness of life.
