I’m Mizu, the Hokkaido Elm or Ulmus parvifolia 'Hokkaido.' I'm a Dwarf variation of the elm tree and am known for my dense arrangement of tiny leaves and branches which create a full size plant of tiny dimensions.

I'm native to Japan, Korea and China. I grow very slowly (about 1-2" per year), and show age through my stocky trunk. As I grow older, my bark begins to peel, revealing a corky, underlying tan-and-brown bark.

I do best in full to partial sun conditions. You can water me once every 7-10 days, or more if it’s really hot. Don't over water in winter, and don't let me dry out in the summer sun. To water, submerge my pot up to the rim for 20 minutes and let me drain thoroughly. Although I am an indoor tree, please keep me away from heaters in the winter. I prefer to stay cool and benefit from good air circulation.

Symbolism: The main aspect of Elm symbolism is strength, wisdom and will & intuition. Native American tribes used infusions from the inner root bark to treat colds, coughs, and fever.

Includes care instructions. Plate sold separately.
