I’m 'Dolly', the Mistletoe Fig, and native to Southeast Asia. My shiny light green leaves have a spatulate shape and yellowish undersides that have triangular black glands in between the leaf veins. My nickname 'Mistletoe Fig' comes from my small orange and red fruits which resemble mistletoe berries. I am used in traditional medicine in Southeast Asia where all parts of me are believed to have healing properties. My rounded leaves are considered as a symbol of good luck and as an auspicious plant in Feng Shui.
Keep me in a location that has partial or direct sunlight several hours a day. To water, submerge my pot in water up to the rim for 20 minutes. Do this about once every 5 days, or more frequently when it is very hot or dry. I like temperatures between 45-80 ̊F. Keep me away from heaters in the winter and on nice days open the window for fresh air; I love a good breeze.
Symbolism:The top and underside of the Mistletoe Fig leaves are so different, we think this is an appropriate symbol for diversity and concealed connotations. The two sides, which belong to a single entity, embody the concept of oneness in duality.
