I'm Ari, the Cotoneaster native to the Himalayas, and I like a year-round show: from early spring-summer I bloom small white flowers, beloved by bees. By fall these flowers fruit into dark red berries attractive to all kinds of birds. I'm a semi-evergreen, so some of my leaves will even change color to yellow before winter.
I am an outdoor tree and need to live outdoors all year round in a protected spot, especially in the winter as this is when I go dormant. If it snows, great! I like full sun. In summer when afternoon sun is harsh, you can put me in bright shade. My pot can dry slightly between waterings but always water me thoroughly. In the warm months monitor the weight of my pot and soil moisture, watering every 5-7 days by submerging up to the rim for 5 minutes and let drain well. Water more often when very dry/hot. In the winter, water as needed and protect me from any strong windchill.
Symbolism: The Cotoneaster is a tree greatly appreciated in Feng Shui. Its symbolic Wood element signifies growth and transformation, the intricacies of nature and the willingness to expand-- both physically and spiritually. The Cotoneaster is aligned with the 'Zhen' Chi, which is suitable if you are looking for stability and solidity in life, especially the ability to withstand transformation and hardship.
Includes basic care instructions. We always recommend doing more research as each environment-- and tree!-- is unique. Plate sold separately.
