This Limited Edition of Gilly the Brazilian Raintree in our new Dosenbo Wood Fired Planter is a quiet beauty that exudes stillness. Its beauty lies in its tiny imperfections with its gritty textured particles and wood-fired finish. Ceramic Artist Shimizu Yoshiyuki created a stone-carved aesthetic with this planter collaboration.

I’m Gilly, the Brazilian Rain Tree, and native to the Brazil rainforests. I am a hardwood tree known for my small leaves that usually close up at night, or when agitated. I also have fragrant puffy flowers when older. I represent transformation and life cycles, much like the rainforest itself. Keep me in a location that has partial or full sun a few hours a day.

To water, submerge my pot in water up to the rim for 15 minutes and then let me drain thoroughly.  Do this about once every 5 days, or when my pot feels about 1/2 lighter. I never like to dry out completely. I like temperatures between 45-80˚F all year and humidity in winter. On nice days you can even take me outside, where I’d love to feel the wind in my branches.

Includes care instructions. Plate sold separately.

The main aspect of Elm symbolism is strength, wisdom and will & intuition. Native American tribes used infusions from the inner root bark to treat colds, coughs, and fever.

About the Planter:

This spectacular Dosenbo planter is handmade from the earth up in Dosenbo, Japan  just outside of the ancient capital of Nara.

The clay is hand harvested from the gritty earth of Dosenbo's mountains and wood-fired in an ancient type of tunnel kiln called Anagama for several days. The complex interaction of ash, salts, minerals in the clay and flame are what gives this wood-fired planter its unique characteristics. The result: a mysterious cornucopia of heavily textured minerals and particles of varying unpredictable darkness and lightness in color.

The Tsutsu shape of this planter is reminiscent of cylindrical Japanese tea bowls used during the winter season.

Exclusively designed for Dandy Farmer and handmade by ceramic Artist Shimizu Yoshiyuki from the mountains of Dosenbo, Japan.
