I’m Merlin, the Japanese Elm or Zelkova, and native to Japan and Eastern China. I’m known for my fine-toothed leaves, graceful lines and attractive bark. I do best in full to partial sun conditions.
You can water me once every 7-10 days, or more it it’s really hot. To water, submerge my pot in water up to the rim for 20 minutes and let me drain thoroughly. Although I’m an outdoor plant, I can acclimate to indoor conditions with proper ventilation and light. Keep the window open or put me outside on nice days. In winter, keep me in a cool location far from heaters. If outdoors, protect me well from the winter winds.
Symbolism:
The main aspect of Elm symbolism is strength, wisdom and will & intuition. Native American tribes used infusions from the inner root bark to treat colds, coughs, diarrhea, internal bleeding, and fever.
